It’s owned by four family members—Phil, Lorraine, Joseph and Kirsten—with 40 years of culinary experience between them. The family set up shop in early 2009 after their haddock chowder swept the first place awards at the 2008 “Chili and Chowder Challenge” in Lewiston, Maine. That fall Jeff Holden hopped in his car and drove up I-95 to Greene, where he developed a friendship with the Hurricane’s team. Hurricane’s now gets premium quality from the Holden family business. Once the soup is finished, they send it back to Portland, where it’s loaded on the truck with our seafood order and driven down to the shops. All of Hurricane’s soups are free of gluten, preservatives and MSG. They’re made with fresh local ingredients, including BGH-free Maine cream, and they’re never frozen. Luke’s Lobster serves Hurricane’s New England Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, Spicy Crab and Sweet Potato Bisque, Seafood Chowder, and Shrimp and Corn Chowder.

Maine Root Sodas

Brothers Matt and Mark Seiler have been quenching thirst for four years with their high-quality, handcrafted, all natural Maine Root sodas. They’re are sweetened with Fair Trade, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, with no extra processing and no additives. It tastes better, it’s better for you, it’s better for the farmers, and it’s better for the ecosystem. The Seilers rock a vegetable-powered VW Jetta that runs on recycled fryer oil collected from local restaurants. The Jetta has cleaner emissions and smells much better (would you like fries with that?) than your average car. Luke’s is proud to offer Lemonade, Root Beer, Sarsaparilla, Ginger Brew, Lemon-Lime, Blueberry and Mandarin Orange sodas.

Maine Microbrews

Allagash Brewing began in 1995 in Portland, as a response to the lack of quality Belgian-style ales in the US. Allagash uses the techniques of traditional Trappist monks to create top notch, flavorful beers like their flagship Allagash White as well as the more unique Black and Curieux (aged in bourbon barrels).

Peak Organic is a younger company that's committed to brewing smooth, flavorful beers with organic, local ingredients. They complement their flagship Pale Ale and IPA with incredible seasonal selections, all brewed to exacting sustainability and quality standards.

Geary’s is one of Maine’s oldest microbreweries, and Geary's Pale Ale is the classic Downeast beer. It’s a smooth English-style ale long favored by lobstermen, and their summer, autumn, and winter ales make fantastic additions to the lineup.

Atlantic Brewing Company/Bar Harbor is a 20-year-old company out of Bar Harbor, brewing an eclectic bunch of delicious beers with a local touch, from Bar Harbor Blueberry to Mt Desert Ginger.

Maine Beer Company is a brand new tiny company that brews right next door to Allagash in Portland. Their flagship Peepers Pale Ale does a lobster roll proud, as does MBC's commitment to donate 1% of sales to environmental non-profits.

Cullen Winkler, Muralist

Muralist Cullen Winkler graduated from Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) in 2009. Cullen's mixed media works won him the Richard Martel Memorial Prize at Bowdoin. Cullen was a friend of Luke’s younger brother, Bryan, from the Bowdoin lacrosse team, and when Luke saw Cullen’s work he realized it would be a perfect fit for New York’s first Maine-style lobster shack. Cullen’s murals pay homage to the men and women of the world’s greatest lobster fishery as well as the beauty of Maine’s scenery and lifestyle. Have a project for Cullen? Shoot him an e-mail at cullen.winkler@gmail.com and check out his website: www.cullenwinkler.com!

S'well Bottle

Ever wish your water bottle would stay just a little colder for just a little longer? Well, S’well has answered your prayers! S’well was started in 2009 by Sarah Kauss, in a search for a water bottle that would keep drinks colder or hotter for longer. Sarah realized how crazy it was that Americans alone spend $7 billion a year on bottled water while so many people in developing countries lack access to clean and safe water. So she thought of a better solution. S’well donates 10% of their proceeds to Water Aid, a non-profit that builds safe, clean, convenient water sources in the areas that need them most. Luke’s has commissioned a special edition S’well bottle that we're selling in stores for $20. And they're worth every penny.

Deadhead Lumber
